primers

DOWSIL 1200 OS

An air-drying Primer, supplied as a colourless solution of moisture-reactive materials in volatile siloxane, that improves both the quality and speed of adhesion for room-temperature vulcanising silicone sealants on non-porous substrates. Works with both moisture-curing RTV and heat-curing silicones, meets low-VOC regulations including the EU, and enhances bonding to ceramics, glass, wood, masonry, structural plastics and many metals.

DOWSIL PRIMER P

A one-part, film-forming, air-drying Primer for use with most DOWSIL sealants on porous and cementitious surfaces such as natural stone, masonry and glass-fibre-reinforced concrete, and on properly prepared painted aluminium (PVDF-coated). Resists adhesion loss from water immersion and won't discolour in sunlight. Not for use with DOWSIL 790, Contractors Concrete Sealant or Parking Structure Sealants.

DOWSIL Primer C

A low-VOC Primer for one- and two-part DOWSIL sealants, with a fluorescing feature that lets applicators visually confirm the Primer has been applied. Improves adhesion to a wide range of substrates including plastics and coated aluminium (PVDF), and speeds up adhesion build on two-part structural sealants. Conforms to South Coast and Bay Area AQMD regulations for architectural sealant primers; quick-curing and non-staining.

SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

DOWSIL 789-P+

DOWSIL™ 789-P+ is a one-part, neutral-cure hybrid sealant. It gives you the flexibility of silicone, and you can paint over it, which standard silicones don't allow. Once it's tack-free, latex paint goes straight on, so the joint matches the façade instead of showing as a sealant line. It handles movement of up to ±50% of joint width and works across a wide temperature range. It bonds to most porous and non-porous surfaces without a Primer. Use it around windows and doors, in expansion and control joints, and on precast concrete panels, EIFS, aluminium and masonry. It suits jobs where the joint has to seal properly and also look painted.

DOWSIL CCS

DOWSIL™ CCS (Contractors Concrete Sealant) is a one-part, moisture-cure silicone sealant made for concrete, brick and masonry joints. It bonds to these surfaces without a Primer. It's low-modulus, so it puts little stress on the bondline and recovers well when a joint opens and closes, which matters on walls that move. Use it around window and door openings in concrete walls, in EIFS joints, between tilt-up concrete panels, and for general construction joints where different materials meet.

DOWSIL 817 Mirror Adhesive

DOWSIL™ 817 is a one-part, neutral-cure silicone adhesive for fixing mirrors indoors. It's non-corrosive, so it won't attack the mirror's silvering or backing coat, and it has almost no smell. It cures with moisture from the air and sticks to most glass, metals and mirror coatings without a Primer. It also takes heat and humidity well, so it suits bathrooms and changing rooms. It comes in a 310 ml cartridge and goes on with a standard caulking gun. Apply it between +5 and +40°C. The same adhesive also works for coated glass or metal panels on indoor substrates.

DOWSIL Membrane Dual

DOWSIL™ Membrane Dual is an EPDM membrane for sealing around windows, curtain walls and ventilated façades. It works as a vapour control layer under EN 13984, and you can use it inside or outside because it's a vapour-tight (not breathable) membrane. It comes in 0.6, 1.0 and 1.2 mm thicknesses, with a μ value of 100,000. It's flexible and tear resistant, copes well with joint movement, and holds up against UV, temperature extremes, chemical pollutants and moisture. It is supplied with DOWSIL™ 300 Adhesive, which bonds it in place as part of the Membrane Façade System.

DOWSIL 300 Adhesive

DOWSIL™ 300 Adhesive is the adhesive that fixes DOWSIL™ Membrane Dual in place. It's flexible, grabs well from the start, and bonds to a wide range of surfaces. It comes in 600 ml foil packs and goes on with a manual gun. It's required to fix the membrane as part of the Membrane Façade System.

DOWSIL 650

DOWSIL™ 650 is a peelable protective coating, not a sealant. It's a waterborne acrylic that you paint onto glass, aluminium, metals and plastics during construction. It keeps off dust, stains, grease and even weld slag, then peels away afterwards with no residue and no damage to the surface. Apply one or two coats by brush or roller, or by spray in a factory. It stays peelable even after long UV and weather exposure, it's low-VOC, and it's compatible with common DOWSIL™ glazing sealants. The 650 is blue. The 650+ is the translucent version, which lets more light into the building while it's on.

DOWSIL FireStop 400

DOWSIL™ Firestop 400 is a one-part, water-based intumescent acrylic sealant for indoor fire-rated walls and partitions. It swells when heated, which closes the gap against flame and smoke. It sticks to most common building materials without a Primer, resists mildew and mould, and gives off no halogenated by-products in a fire. It's paintable and goes on from a 380 ml cartridge, with a tack-free time of 30–45 minutes. Use it in joints where fire-rated partition sections meet, around door and window frames in fire walls, and for service penetrations.

DOWSIL FireStop 700

DOWSIL™ FireStop 700 is a one-part, neutral-cure, low-modulus silicone fire sealant for interior and exterior joints. It bonds to steel, masonry and brick without a Primer. It takes ±50% joint movement and stands up to ozone, UV and temperature extremes, so it works outdoors as well as inside. Use it in linear expansion joints in fire-rated walls and in smaller penetration seals where pipes or cables pass through fire-rated structures. It's CE marked as a fire-resistant sealant (EAD 350141-00-1106) and tested to EN 1366-4.

DOWSIL 896 PanelFix

DOWSIL™ 896 PanelFix is a one-part silicone adhesive made for bonding façade cladding panels. It builds strength quickly, so panels stay put while it cures. It squeezes out very little, resists compression, and bonds to a range of mineral surfaces and metals without a primer. It also stays stable across a wide temperature range. It's the main part of the DOWSIL™ PanelFix System, which also has a pre-fixing tape to hold panels in position, plus cleaners and Primers. You can apply the system on site or in a factory.

DOWSIL R-40

DOWSIL™ R-40 Universal Cleaner is a solvent-based cleaner you use to prep surfaces before bonding or sealing. It's a colourless, thin liquid that cleans and degreases the non-porous surfaces used in structural glazing, insulating glass, and window and door work. Cleaning first helps the sealant or adhesive bond properly and last longer. Pour a little into a clean container rather than working straight from the bottle. It cleans porous surfaces less effectively. It also removes uncured sealant from tools and non-porous surfaces. It works with silicone, polyurethane and other sealant types.

DOWSIL Glass Sealant

DOWSIL™ Glass Sealant is a one-part, 100% silicone sealant with an acetoxy cure. It cures at room temperature from moisture in the air. It's a non-sag paste that sets to a tough, flexible rubber, and it bonds well to glass. It stays flexible from -40°C to +150°C. Use it to bond and seal glass cabinets, shop windows, window and door glass, and glass-to-ceramic joints, indoors or outdoors. It suits non-porous surfaces and low-movement joints.

DOWSIL 375

DOWSIL™ 375 Construction & Glass Embedding is a two-part polyurethane for fixing frameless glass balustrades. You pour it into the base U-profile around the glass panel, so nothing shows and the glass looks like it's standing on its own. It works for flat or curved glass, monolithic or laminated, indoors or outdoors. It's thin enough to self-level, has a long pot life, and still cures fast at room temperature. Once cured it's very rigid, so the panel barely deflects. It's mixed at 100:25 by volume (100:19 by weight), and the container sizes are light enough to handle easily.
